Well, isn't that generous of them. She was smart to turn down the offer since there is probably an agreement not to pursue legal action buried in the fine print.
I had that reaction a a Burger King he first time I went in there. Turns out it was indeed coffee, sort of. Burger King was using concentrated coffee liquid in bags to stoke their coffee urns. It was like coffee that is already made three months ago, is old and stale when they start it in the pot. Then a few yeas ago BK switched to coffee from grounds in standard drippers and it was standard diner coffee and they dropped the price. I noticed a year later they went back to the bag coffee with the ancient stale burnt taste a nd the high price. I finally quit “fast food” altogether in favor of the much more friendly greasy spoon diners and Waffle Houses where you can at least trade compliments and bad puns with the staff.
Smart to turn down the settlement-dumb for not calling the cops and dumb for giving the yuck back to McD’s.
