Enlisted after HS during Carter - the lack of respect by civilian authority, morale and discipline issues, - Changed with Reagan and continued 41 (culminating with nearly 1 year “extension” for Desert Storm) - 4 years active 10 years reserve USAF-. I would tell my grandson, given current climate, do not enlist since you will 1) have a target on your back because of background and demographic 2) be improperly trained which will put you at severe risk 3) be at severe risk due to pervasive incompetent leadership throughout entire chain of command
I was in the AF reserve under Carter. Af was run by “managers’. No flight time, heavy reliance on simulators. AF was not ready for war.
Enter Reagan and now active duty. Now lead by Warriors. Training and equipment vastly improved. When I got out in 90 the AF was hard and ready to kick ass.
I would also advise any kid who is the least bit conservative to avoid the military now. The political Kommisars are coming....
