Bingo. You nailed it. My father got up and went to work every single day. I never saw him call in sick or have a hangover. Sometimes he worked two jobs. He imparted his work ethic to me. I have no doubt that without my father as a role model, I would have turned out way differently, most likely for the worse.

Same here; learned early on that if you wanted something, you worked for it.
Blacks learned the same until LBJ started the “cash for kids” program, destroying for many both the black family and work ethic in one shot. Of course, plenty of non-blacks learned how to play the game as well; the marginalization of Judeo-Christian values (often with collusion of religious leaders) did the rest.
