With Serena, it’s more about the media adulation that is so offensive than anything she has said or done. Her prima donna attitude is hardly unique in tennis, and neither are her tantrums and selfishness. In my mind, her worst political moment was when she went after Tennys Sandgren for old tweets. Other than that, I don’t recall anything blatantly political that she has said outside of the usual PC b.s. I’m sure it’s out there, but it doesn’t stand out in my mind, and I’m a huge tennis, albeit mens side, fan.
So it’s like what Rush said about McNabb: with Serena what’s offensive is the leftist media slobbering over her skin color and not so much her actions herself.
As for Osaka, she was cute when she was the shy, Japanese anti-Serena. Since she became Colin Kaepernic, she’s just obnoxious.
I’m just sad my boy Thiem fell out in the round of 16. Can’t believe I’d actually root for Djokovic should he meet Medvedev, but if the Greek makes it, I’m all in for him.
I consider Thiem primarily a clay-courter. Reminds me of his fellow Austrian Tomas Muster.
