Why do people have icicles on their ceiling fans?

I’m guessing either the household water supply pipes have frozen and burst or an ice dam has formed on their roof.

Ice dams are nasty. We get them up north all the time, especially on south facing roofs, where the sun can melt snow on even a cold day.

One thing you need to do is use a roof rake to clear snow at least two feet from the edge of your roof. As the damage is done when melting snow re-freezes where the gutters are and the melting snow has no place to go but under the shingles and into your home.

We bought a new house some years ago and the first winter, we had ice dams and water leaked into the home. We had to tear out a lot of sheetrock and redo. It was very disheartening.

Yeah, they have busted pipes in the ceiling, that’s why.

They run water pipes thru attics in TX sometimes. We don’t have basements here. Now you have to be savvy enough to check
where the pipes are in your house and someone has to wrap them before winter low temps if they are in the attic. Broken pipe equals icicles on the ceiling fan until temp gets high enough to collapse entire ceiling on your head.
