That’s my understanding, too. Likewise there is equipment they could have installed that would have prevented the gas line freeze-ups and kept the coal and nuclear plants from shutting down but they opted not to do that as well. While this weather is not common in Texas it also isn’t unheard of, so the decision to cut costs has led to the deaths and suffering that Texas has gone through and is going through. And since the power company is a monopoly it’s unlikely there will be any penalties for them.

Something else that came to mind is what if the manhours, equipment, money and effort that went into implementing and sustaining solar and wind would have been directed to gas and oil instead would that have helped this situation.

I read that part of the problem is gas lines froze because they were not weatherproofed either.
