"We don't have time for anti-trust, we don't have time for regulations and I'm not fond of regulations anyway. We needed to act big and we did. I encourage the marketplace to fill the void. Thank you."
Yeah they could have moved against Gab -- not the same simple way they ended Parler but probably could have jammed them up into disfunctionality -- but they had to leave one viable alternative, or chance that even a lightweight Bushie judge would look askance at the obvious collusion and tort interference -- and perhaps even examine upchain at the Respondent's prior restraint as well.
This.
It wasn't all that long ago that Mark Zuckerberg was in front of congress begging and pleading for more bureaucracy and more regulations. "regulate me".
How did the people at Gab miss that?
FLASHBACK: The “Repeal Section 230” Narrative is Being Pushed by Silicon Valley, Don’t Fall For It
FLASHBACK: The “Regulate big tech companies” Narrative is Being Pushed by Silicon Valley, Don’t Fall For It.
The big companies aren’t able to keep up with moderating properly and thoroughly. They’d be brought down in the courts with their lopsided beliefs. And “AI” isn’t what it’s exaggerated to be.
President Trump knew what he was talking about as per his advisors.
fascinating word,
panopticon
“Section 230 doesn’t apply to Big Tech’s editorializing. The First Amendment does.”
It does???????????

That would be my thinking too.
Gab would exist with or without Facebook or Twitter driving conservatives away. There have always been conservative media going back to long before Facebook and Twitter were founded and long before the internet was even invented.
using Section 230 as a pretext.
Facebook and Twitter are not banning conservatives because of section 230. Section 230 actually gives them cover for any posts made on their sites by conservatives or anyone else.
Facebook and Twitter are banning conservatives because they are conservative hating, Trump haters who want to do everything they can to hep the Dems and Biden win elections.
Its as simple as that.
Fix Twitter and Facebook, and Gab has no reason to exist
First of all, nothing can “fix” Facebook or Twitter same as you can't fix a skunk. A skunk will always do what it does, which is stink up the joint.
And secondly Gab is such a pleasant enjoyable place that nobody in his right mind who has been on Gab, will even dream of joig Facebook or Twitter.
Its that simple.
Um, no.
See post 29. Gab is set to become a powerhouse. All we need is for top conservatives like Senator Rand Paul, ted Cruz, Congressman Jim Jordan etc plus the big man himself, President Trump to sign up.
It also means that the forces which explain why Twitter and Facebook are so hate-filled against conservative will remain in place so long as they are simultaneously free to censor conservatives, but also free to promote every form of anti-conservative hate that could possibly exist.
I don't really care much what the deranged left post on Twitter or Facebook. I have never been a member of either, thank God for that.
However, I joined Gab first of all the give them traffic and encourage them, only to find out its one of the most pleasant communities one could ever be in, just like FR.
I am really enjoying Gab.
I don't understand, however, why no-one has attempted to strip Facebook and Twitter of Section 230 by arguing that their selective censorships amounts to them having their own voice.
That argument has been made by plenty of conservatives, including Senators Rand Paul and Ted Cruz.
Perhaps the best solution is to reassert that Section 230 protections are offered only when the refusal to censor results in an open political discourse.
The point is, repealing Section 230 under President Trump using that argument would have been great. Under a Dementia Joe presidency with a Dem congress, the Dems will replace 230 with something even worse which will protect Facebook, Twitter and big tech , even while attempting to crush conservative outlets like Gab.
The Dems will never agree to reign in Twitter and Facebook. Those two outfits are the biggest source of propaganda for the Democratic Party.
>> Gab is set to become a powerhouse. <<
Hugely profitable, maybe. Ever able to preach to any audience besides the choir? No.
>> All we need is for top conservatives like Senator Rand Paul, ted Cruz, Congressman Jim Jordan etc plus the big man himself, President Trump to sign up. <<
That they haven’t yet probably says it’s never EVEN going to be able to preach to the choir.
Put it this way: 25 years ago, Jim Robinson created a web site for right-wingers to discuss politics with other right-wingers. We don’t need Gab for THAT. What we need is a web site wherein conservatives have a voice within a larger marketplace of ideas.
Well the way things are going, Twitter and Facebook will soon be preaching only to the far left choir.
On the other hand, if President Trump joins Gab, the fake news media and the Trump haters will follow him if only to post garbage in the comments section of his Gabs.
Gab is doing very well in every way right now.
That they haven't yet probably says it's never EVEN going to be able to preach to the choir.
We will see.
I fully expect the power drunk Dem propaganda outfits of Twitter and Facebook to start banning independent thinkers like Rand Paul pretty soon.
Don't forget Rand Paul earlier joined Parler when Twitter kept flagging his totally proper posts. If they can join Parler, they sure as heck can join Gab.
I know Gab is VERY different from FR. I only meant we can already preach to the choir. But for all your talk about how Gab is set to become a monster, it has 3 million users. Facebook has 270 million in the U.S. alone and nearly three BILLION worldwide. So if preaching to the choir means preaching, for instance, to the Republican Party, Gab is like preaching to a tiny faction of the Constitution Party.
