Toomey and Burr are not running for reelection, so they didn’t care what their Republican constituents thought about the trial.
The Senate Intelligence Committee, led by Burr but really run by Mark Warner (lead Democrat) failed to meaningfully investigate the Russia collusion hoax. In early 2020 was announced Burr was being investigated for insider trading by the Justice Department. Burr resigned his chairmanship of the Senate Intelligence Committee shortly after the investigation was made public by the media. Strange action to take if the man was completely clean and innocent. Afterwards he maintained a very low profile in the Senate and his state as news of the investigation disappeared.
On January 19, 2020, one day before the inauguration of Joe Biden, the DOJ announced it was dropping its investigation of Burr. The House had impeached Donald Trump for the second time on January 13, so at that time it was known the Senate would be holding a second trial and Burr would one of the Senators voting in the Senate trial.
Less than 30 days after the announcement of the DOJ investigation being dropped, Burr was one of seven Senators who voted to convict Donald Trump. Coincidence?
“ Toomey and Burr are not running for reelection, so they didn’t care what their Republican constituents thought about the trial.”
They’d better care. They have to live among those constituents. I’m afraid I would be tempted to give them a piece of my mind whenever I saw one of them.
They are looking for lobbying jobs.
