Brings lots of happy memories...I went to see him play many times in the old cow barn...the old LSU Agricultural Center.
Jealous. Carville (of all people) was there back then. He (and many others) talk about the Freshman game selling out (when Pete wasn’t eligible), and then the fans leaving before the varsity game started.
He scored more points than we can count in only 3 seasons w/out a 3 point line. I think Dale Brown charted his shots and determined he would have averaged 57 points/game for 3 seasons w/ a 3 point line.
He was an other world type talent for sure.
I’ve got and old SPORT magazine from my collection right here in front of me now. It is dated March 1970, (Jerry West on the cover), that had a fantastic story on Pete. It was titled: ‘Pete Maravich and is million dollar show’. Other stories that issue: ‘Why I’m challenging baseball’ by Curt Flood....’What it’s like to play for Ted Williams’ By Frank Howard....’The Knicks, a special look at a team headed for the top’....and ‘The courage and splendor of Jerry West’. What an era! Maravich, Rick Mount, Calvin Murphy and Charlie Scott, 4 of the greatest Collegiate guards ever, playing during the same time!
