Why can’t he understand that he is so 2018 by now?

Too reasons;
1) Once someone gets a sense of social importance, their egos cannot live without it.
2) I don’t care what anyone says, for most people politics is a game of power (rather than service) and you can’t help attacking people who hold different positions than you. It takes a lot of discipline not to get trolled. Refer to #1; ego
