***New Generac 8,000 watt portable generator that will run the entire house***

Somehow that doesn't compute. Unless age is clouding my mind, I am picturing a generator filling up a pick up truck bed... the type used on remote construction sites. 'Portable' would make you Hercules. A 1500 watt generator is portable (for me... well, not any more :^/ ).

The 200 amp service panel with a built in transfer switch is interesting. I used to do some work in this area; the technology has really advanced - and I bet gotten cheaper. The alternative would be to run alternate 'emergency' circuits through your house. With copper approaching $4 a pound that could be prohibitive.

#917 8k generator is too small to run our place. Electric dryer, hot water heater, well, forced air furnance a/c, chest freezer...

I have a 15k generac on wheels. It’s probably 4-5 hundred pounds. Engine is a twin cylider vanguard pressure oil system. Relatively small. Stands maybe 40 inches with a molded fuel tank on top, 24 inches wide and 3 ft long.
