Despite his remarks on "content of character," King was not one of us.

GOP or not, ML King was not as radical as most of today’s left-wing.

Come to think of it, JFK was not GOP either, but, if he had not been murdered and had kept his policies as they were back in the 50s and 60s, he would be more like a republican today than a ‘leftist’ or democrat.

Leftwing revisionism of Martin Luther King. He was for civil disobedience, not violence. That separates todays’ radical left from old style liberals. The argument about whether or not he was a conservative or a Republican is another question. Republicans routinely earned a big slice of the black vote given that it was a Republican who freed the slaves. That is, until LBJ introduced family-destroying welfare programs and famously said, “I’ll have these [n-word] voting Democrat for the next 200 years,”

Gottfried and his article are full of liberal obfuscation and false premises when he states that conservatives are trying to draw King as a conservative. King was a registered Republican because he did not want to be tainted by the segregationist history of southern Democrats. Gottfried avoids stating this in his article so as not to have to revisit the Democrat history as segregationists. No conservative is claiming King a conservative other than religion and his position on homosexuality. He had a very liberal activist mindset in all matters and few deny that. Gottfried is trying to make an argument when there is none there to besmirch conservatives.

MLK sold out his people, and all Americans too. He literally took a promise of Federal funds and unConstitutional laws to turn away from the true promise of equality under the law.

His movement led to millions of dead babies, fatherless homes, and black women as ho’s. For the rest of us, we are all second class citizens. Our status is decided at the whim of a FEDGOV that is 2,000+ miles from my home, and millions of miles away from Original Intent.
