I was moved by this snippet:
The camera pans out to catch Barbara looking lost at the party in a sea of frozen margaritas and Hawaiian shirts. Cerebral in nature with dark hair and uncured porcelain skin; she doesn't fit in there. Searching for an anchor, she finds Henry who is too preoccupied while dancing with a flashy vixen in figure hugging pedal pushers. Barbara walks away feeling dejected - the weight of her loneliness is palpable.
I know exactly how you feel Barbara.

Cerebral people are a minority in life and must, as they have always done, either seek out the things that interest them alone (and enjoy the solitude) or find others like themselves (they do exist).
Frankly, the life being lived in this article doesn't sound a lot different than a party college (except for the good golf courses).
I wouldn't want to live this way, but I have plenty of friends who might.

It sounds like retirement community life is just like regular life. You have to find your crowd no matter what age you are.

I haven't read the article, but as a re-married, 73 year old widower, I saw
that writing on the wall (my first wife went home at 49 in 2004, I was 55 or so) ... and consciously refused to wallow in grief or stay single ...
I re-married in 2010.
