If you quit drinking the liver can heal itself. So either they hadn't stopped drinking for very long before they restarted or their livers were already so damaged they were on the edge anyway. That probably doesn't make up a very large percentage of people who have been isolated due to the pandemic.

I have no doubt there are people who are going to drink themselves to death because they have lost hope and this pandemic was the last straw. But this article is just trying to sensationalize a small percentage of that group.

To a certain extent the liver cal heal itself. Once you have cirrhosis the damage is permanent. it will all resume or even accelerate with alcohol consumption. You underestimate the problem
