Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa announced the formation of the Tua Foundation on Thursday, and one of the first beneficiaries of the new charity was Alabama-based Big Oak Ranch.

In announcing the launch of the Tua Foundation, Tagovailoa said its “primary focus will be on charitable endeavors in south Florida, Alabama and Hawaii.”

Tagovailoa was an All-American quarterback for Alabama and is a native of Hawaii.

The nonprofit organization’s first action featured donations of $16,667 apiece to the Police Athletic League of North Miami, Big Oak Ranch and the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame, which is in Hawaii.

Big Oak Ranch aims to help abused, abandoned and neglected children “by giving them a solid, Christian home and a chance to fulfill God’s plan for their lives.” Founded by former Alabama football standout John Croyle in 1974, Big Oak Ranch now operates Big Oak Boys’ Ranch in Gadsden, Big Oak Girls’ Ranch in Springville and Big Oak Cattle. Croyle’s son, former Alabama and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Brodie Croyle, is the organization’s executive director.

What an honor to be included in the launch of the @TuaFoundation! We are so grateful for your partnership in relieving the suffering of abused, neglected and abandoned children.#HopeChangesEverything — Big Oak Ranch (@Big_Oak_Ranch) February 4, 2021

“It is my deepest hope that the Tua Foundation will make a meaningful impact in support of those in need,” Tagovailoa said. “Helping others is a tenet of my faith and who I am. This is a cause close to my heart.”

Actually, Saban is worth it from a capitalist/free market point of view.

Ask yourself how much revenue does he bring BACK to the university and state of Alabama. Is it more than his salary? Is it more than the price of his salary plus the entire UA football program?

It is!

The last good numbers I could find where from 2018, but Alabama athletics brought in a school record $177 million in revenue. Most of it (60%) is from the football program alone.

That’s about $106,200,000.

One story at al.com (notoriously left leaning) says UA spends $62 million on the football program total.

Saban knows how to win, and win big, with the most world trophies of any college football coach. If he left UA, they’d probably lose more, and then the lost revenue would be bigger than his salary costs.

We’ll never know 100%, but that’s my educated opinion.

List did not include Chip kelley at ucla...23 mill over 5 years(he must do outside promotional work) to get the salary. Clay Helton at southern cal gets about 4.5 mill per year.
....we spend way too much on football...wonder what the salaries would be without tv.

That’s where I got it, al.com. As i said, these are the figures for 2018.

—Just without the hype and hate for Saban and the University.

Since I don’t follow the National Felon League any more, I don’t know how Tua’s first season as a pro went......but I got the impression that it didn’t go well.

The pros say it was okay for his first season. I have the same impression a you though.

I don't watch pro sports either. In fact, I only watch Alabama college football games.
