I always kind of saw them as Curtis Sliwa’s way of making himself important, but I have gained a fair amount of respect for him in his later years. I think my impression him might have been clouded by media bias.

I think they helped some, but I don’t think it moved the needle much over all. I respect what they did a heck of a lot more now than I did then.
