That said if we had any kind of leadership, there would be pipelines running east and west out of the tar sands, Canada would have no energy taxes and the cheapest energy in the world.
Much like the US, we have no political leadership.
“Much like the US, we have no political leadership.”
One of the problems I feel Canada has had to face with their oil sales is dealing too much with the US. Currently, and for over 8 years, over 95% of their oil exports went to the US. So there was no price marketing or political hobnobbing for trade off deals with many foreign countries they could have used to get better financially. I agree with you on the lack of leadership the US has had as we have had a steady run of career politicians since Eisenhower in the late 50’s. But that is what made Trump different. The US voted for a CEO and got changes to our economic policies that made us all wealthier and put rogue countries in check by our standards. That’ll stop. Biden is a career politician.
The US doesn’t even need Canada oil except due to politics. The US hasn’t even made a dent in ANWAR, or the Florida oil still in the ground. Our ground supplies in Texas are underused and we haven’t even started a huge supply in the Rockies. (And won’t for four years a least since Biden cut out a number of drilling starts with his signature) Fact is we export oil back to Canada along with our biggest energy support to them, natural gas, that is also piped. U.S. natural gas exports to Canada mainly go into the eastern provinces of Canada with it coming from the western provinces. It just needs a visa twice. In November 2019, the United States became a net exporter of all oil products, including both refined petroleum products and crude oil. And that’s without those vast supply areas I mentioned above.
But as the US liberal party and their demented ideas about ecology continue to hammer our joint financial agreements that were working and sustainable, the love affair and joint cooperation between the two countries will be stressed as Canada will not want to go down with the US sinking ship. At some point they will have to $hit or get off the pot. And I agree with them. They never should have been set up as a petroleum prostitute for the US to begin with. And Canada will feel it first as our use of oil products slows and we will not need the Canada Shale oil. Then who will fold first? Toss up.
