My sister had a poodle, and fed it cooked meat and lunchmeat, and it developed Pancreatitis.
salty, fatty prepared lunchmeats are no good and cooked meat should be low fat, cooked with grease drained. I have great luck with pork sirloin chops, boiled chicken breast with rice/pasta for some carbs, lean ground beef 90%+ lean and any beef trimmed, steak or roast. Their hair looks great, teeth strong with minimal tarter and energetic. No spices or add ins, just the meat and minimal carbs.
The thing about lunch meat that I have noticed is that dogs don’t chew it, they gulp it down and it sits in their stomach unmasticated for too long stimulating the pancreas. This is my theory anyways. I had a border collie that developed chronic pancreatitis after gulping down an entire hot dog that way so I’m very careful with my current pups. They get lunch meat as a snack but I “chew it up” for them before they eat it with a knife or my fingers. My aunt had a schnauzer that died from pancreatitis. Some breeds, like schnauzers and border collies are more susceptible than others. So, all things in moderation for my pups and no hot dogs whatsoever, and any meat gets masticated before they get it up. and if I wouldn’t eat it, they don’t eat it. This food is also extremely rich for dogs that are used to dry dog food so it’s a recipe for puking even if they don’t get pancreatitis.
BECASUE POODLE are PRONE to Pancreatitis!! She should have fed LEANER cuts of meat!!
