Yeah, that surprised me too. The last Woolworth in my neck of the woods closed down maybe 30 years ago. What a great store that was! You could buy anything there from tropical fish to a camping tent. And of course it had a soda fountain.

I asked that too. The last WW I saw was in Vancouver and downtown L.A. in the 90’s, and both were located in sh*tty slummy areas.

Met my wife while working there in 1978 (South of Boston, store #298), she is still a bargain. When we visited Scotland in 2008 they still had them but they were closing down.

It seems that Woolworths is an Australian chain completely unrelated to FW Woolworth which many of us grew up with.

Ha ha. That was my question. Woolworth’s? You mean the store that would have the parakeets and little turtles for sale in the back of the store? That Woolworth?
I haven’t been to a Woolworth’s in a coon’s age. Still remember the dairy fountain, with the stools.
I didn’t think there were any more either.
The Australian and South African stores are rip-offs established by outsiders because the Woolworth name wasn't trademarked in those countries and the company had no stores there.
