Way back in the days several of Us (We were 15/16 years old) at the Auto Parts Store would go over to the shop of the Souter Brothers, 2 guys that were running a Funny Car in NHRA and hang out partying after We got off work. Donnie & Ronnie had a bad run last weekend. During Qualifying runs the Car sucked up a 2-3' long piece of Lamp cord off the Track. It went in the Blower and down the Intake Manifold into one of the Intake Valves and prevented the Valve from closing !!! It backfired blowing the Top off the motor the Blower stayed attached via the Fuel Line. It was one }{€££ of a mess and a very expensive lamp cord...

So We are there one Saturday Night partying away, surveying the mess of motor parts and suddenly someone starts beating on the garage door. The Brothers go to see who it is and They come back with 2 guys with long hair and beards, T-shirts, jeans, boots and They introduce Themselves as Billy & Dusty. Now remember We are 15/16 years old. We're looking at these 2 Guys and thinking they look kinda familiar and then it sinks in- We have just met 2/3's of ZZ Top!!! And We're drinking beer with them!!! They hang out for a couple of hours Partying with Us trading stories and Bench Racing. So that was Our "Brush with Greatness".
