Saturday Night Live completely avoided parodying Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in its first episode since the pair were sworn into office.
Hosted by John Krasinki, the first SNL of 2021 managed to not feature either the president or vice president in its skits.
Instead it featured special 'appearances' from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Mark Zuckerberg and Tom Brady.
The move was blasted online by some viewers who described the show as a 'snoozefest' which is 'too scared of getting canceled'.

The Daily Mail is liberal but they actually do some reporting. Like you said, they’re in UK so they can get away with doing that. Here in USA? The reporters will never find another job again in the MSM industry.
I’ve met Jim Brewer and Norm M here in L.A and spoke to them more a few times, even had lunch. They’re not libs. Jim is a devout family man and it annoys him potheads “worship” him for his role in Half Baked. Norm is more libertarian on issues.

Somewhat. You remember the Iraq War when the MSM went full on fake news just to see us fail in Iraq? DM was the go-to source on FR and you can even stretch the archives search to 2003 to see them multiple times. They were reporting more on the positive aspects of our soldiers successes in Iraq than the deaths the MSM wanted to see.
I know. I was a lurker on FR for years before officially joining 2007. The UK tabloids like DM and Telegraph were the 2 Brit papers mostly on FR.
I watched the cold opening or whatever you call it just to see how they would handle Biden. The premise was that it was a talk show hosted by Kate McKinnon and and the subject was how it’s is now 2021 and still nothing works, or something like that.
The first example was how government does not work. Any mention of a senile president cluelessly signing 3 dozen dictatorial executive orders? Fat chance, sahib. No, instead for five minutes or so they lambasted the obscure Republican congresswoman who introduced the Articles of Impeachment against Biden last week.
You would think after tirelessly mocking Sean Spicer four years ago, they could find some humor in Biden’s press secretary being served up softball questions and having to constantly “circle back” when asked a basic question of any substance. No way, Jose.
Then, for the topic of how the internet doesn’t work they had two guys on imitating Mark Zuckerberg and the bearded Twitter freak. Any mention of internet censorship? Nope. They used this but to go on about right wing lunatics using the internet to attacking the Capitol.
Even the until-now always funny Keenan Thompson appearing as OJ Simpson discussing how he got a Covid vaccination ahead of frontline healthcare workers and others couldn’t cover up the stench of this awful bit.
Are you ready for the punch line? The only thing that works in 2021 is Tom Brady. What a knee-slapper...Not! The guy who played Brady (the guest host, I assume) looked and acted nothing like Tom Brady or any other professional quarterback. Chevy Chase looked more like Gerald Ford than this guy resembled Brady.
In summary, the opening bit had more in common with Soviet-style propaganda than funny, edgy humor. SNL has become part of the Establishment. Lorne Michaels aka Dr. Evil may enjoy being the toast of New York City and Hollywood but he must know that his show SUCKS!!!!!

I’m waiting for Joe to be asked to denounce white supremacy 20 billion times. Where’s Chris Wallace? Savannah Guthrie? Come on Joe, denounce white supremacy, denounce white supremacy, denounce white supremacy, you have a lot more experience in it than Trump ever did.
Humor depends on a shared worldview and set of assumptions. People have known this forever and even riffed on it - like Steve Martin had a funny bit where he pretended to tell a “plumbers joke” based in the fake premiae that there were a lot of plumbers in the audience. Of course the joke fell flat which was the whole point.
If SNL were to tell a biteme joke or a cameltoe joke it would fall just as flat and for the same reason - no “plumbers” in tge audience.
That makes no sense. No offense to Tom Brady, I have nothing but respect for him. But this joke is missing the mark completely.
I haven't seen this bit by Steve Martin but I know his style of humor so the way you wrote it, it made me laugh.

SNL was last funny 20 years ago.
How about clearing out the land mines in West Virginia? That seems pretty good comedy material.
