Why should I believe your "rationale" versus the governments? Simply answered, I don't believe either one of you.
For one thing, last August the CDC itself, admitted in a report that only 6%, not 10% as you surmise, of the covid deaths are FROM covid itself. And since they admit to cheating and fudging with the numbers already, I discount the 450,000 deaths down to 400,000 just to error on the side of more accuracy.
That's only 24,000 total deaths over the last year. And 80% of those deaths are for people over 65 years old, an age when most people start dying of medical issues and old age anyway.
Your 200 deaths from the vaccine are only from the first month or so of offering it. Wait for a year to go by and see how high that 200 number goes.
This vaccine was rushed onto the the market and historically, vaccines for the flu have taken years to produce, long after the strain of the flu they were intended to address have gone away. Too many potential side effects for my liking.
I addition, the rollout and dispensing of this vaccine has been so amateurish and fraught with errors and missteps, that I don't trust the process at all. The is what happens to people's confidence in the government doing things they shouldn't be doing. Might as well be the DMV of medical care.
".... Irrationality abounds, as always. Fear and ignorance motivate many. The rational argument is certainly in favor of vaccination for Covid, though....."
You make yourself and the government out to be the rational ones and the rest of us are "ignorant and fearful" dummies out here who fell off the back of the turnip truck. Not so.
I would not believe anything the government tells us after watching that lying, snake-in-the-grass, weasel Fauci spewing whatever comes to his mind from one week to the next. He's a fraud. He doesn't know crap and I wouldn't believe a word of advice he offers.
And you have an inflated view of your own self importance, if you think you're the only rational one out there and your advice is the only one that's valid, regarding the vaccine. Again, not so.
For a disease that has only a 0.02% death rate, I'll take my chances with the virus. This pandemic has been politicized to be used to control and manipulate the population. I'm not going to be one of those the government intends to control.
And I'm not "irrational or fearful or ignorant" because I can think for myself and decide not to get the vaccine. Go right ahead but I'm not following the other lemmings off the cliff just to be part of the "in" crowd. Too much of that way of thinking goes on in this country as it is.
The numbers are comparable because the population size is comparable. Time means nothing. Out of 20 million confirmed infections, we can use you number, 24,000 deaths have occurred. Out of 20 million vaccinations about 300 deaths have occurred, and you fail to point out - causation is NOT assumed in the adverse effects reports. Anyone who dies after receiving the vaccine is listed. We don’t truly know how many deaths were caused by the vaccine and how many were from other causes. Statistically, even if you have those 20 million a harmless placebo, you’d expect a few hundred deaths to occur on the same day that the placebo was administered. I’m assuming for the sake of argument that all deaths reported were actually caused by the vaccine and the numbers still work out in favor of vaccination.
D what you want; get vaccinated or not. I don’t care. Just quit spreading misinformation and pretending your choice is rationally based and not the result of fear or misinformation.
BTW it has nothing to do with me or my opinion of myself, the vaccine or any other subject. I expressed no opinions; I presented numbers. And yes, if you are willing to risk a 0.02% chance of dying from a disease (using your number, which is not supported in any way by the actual data) in order to avoid a 0.0016% chance of death from a vaccine, then yes, that’s irrational. You are simultaneously saying you want to avoid risk and yet increasing your risk by at least a factor of 10.
Don’t get me wrong, if that’s your choice, fine. I don’t care. It’s your life. Just stop trying to impose your irrational fears on the rest of society. Vaccines have been used repeatedly throughout history to eradicate diseases and save lives. This one will do the same if we don’t allow irrational fear to prevent it from happening.
