REVIEW: Newt Podcast EP 192 How Iceland Defeated Covid
Newt's World Podcast ^

Posted on 01/30/2021 12:17:34 PM PST by ChinaGotTheGoodsOnClinton

So I thought this might be interesting. Newt interviewed Dr. Karl Stefansson, who lead Iceland's successful covid response.

There are a few places in the world that were able to control the virus pretty well. Africa which uses hydroxychloroquine for widespread malaria control has a very low infection rate.

I am definitely interested in scientific explanations that would account for why Flordia with minimal shutdowns has far lower infection rates than Democrat controls states and liberal nations.

So early on, Dr. Stefansson states something like: "Trump's response would have been far better if he followed the science".

Newt AGREES!

Dr. Seefansson goes on to explain that Iceland's great response which didn't close down any elementary schools, stores or restaurants, was due completely to BORDER CONTROL!

And Newt doesn't circle back and say something like: "OK, Trump is for border control, and the Democrats are for open borders, so who would you think would do better against a pandemic?". The idiot!

If this podcast ever gets any traction, the media will just need to take that opening quote, which Newt never addresses, to discredit Newt, Trump and populism.

Dr. Stefansson, to his credit, admits he is funded by big pharma early on.

“I am definitely interested in scientific explanations that would account for why Flordia with minimal shutdowns has far lower infection rates than Democrat controls states and liberal nations.”

A couple of things to consider. Perhaps the shutdowns increase infections. Or, perhaps the states with high rates of infection tend to shutdown more.

Border control is exactly why.

Keeping it out in the first place.

Island nations like Taiwan, New Zealand and Iceland with one major port of entry have been able to do this.

Travel to New York combined with New York policies that increased spread caused the US epidemic.

Maybe Xiden, should study Pitcairn Island’s immigration policy!

Why do so many lay this year long shutdown on Trump? It is the Governors that shut down their own States! Without declaring Martial Law, the President doesn’t have the authority to close or open a State. Sheesh.

Screw Newt.

January 7: “the real prize for courage yesterday went to Vice President Mike Pence. He had been the brunt of a number of public comments from President Trump trying to push him into doing something he did not think was constitutional. A weaker person might have buckled and given in.”

Africa has two things that are different from most places in the USA: it is very warm all year around and the common usage of hydroxychloroquine. Ordering people to stay indoors may turn out to have been very bad advice. This is more challenging in cold weather but it can be done.

1. Homogeneous Culture
2. Homogeneous Language
3. Homogeneous Genetics

Means that your next door neighbor is probably closer to you than your cousins.

Also means that the amount of crackdown to get people to do a specific thing is far far less...

Think, herding sheep vs. herding cats.

So they can deal with things like that a lot easier.

The world needs more Homogeneous counties.

The world is better as a patchwork quilt than a bathtub full of different colors of paint that has been stirred up.

So the diversity should be on a COUNTRY level but the globally heterogeneous, not ghetto on a local level with Homogenzation on a GLOBAL level!

Hey this is not covid related but that was one aspect of that interview that was pretty interesting.

As it turns out, this population actually has MORE genetic diversity than more diverse populations.

I am not going to explain the good doctor’s explanation on this, but I found that pretty surprising.

Funny typo, dubious statement.

FL has more cases per million population than NY, NJ, MA, MI, VA, MD...

We all know about the crowded housing conditions of migrant workers from our southern border. You have multiple families, multiple young adults and grandparents living in apartments designed for only a family of five. These crowded living conditions become a cauldron for coronavirus spread. In the winter months, when little need for crop picking, those who find jobs, pick up the virus where they work and bring it back to the hive. They infect others who take it out to their workplace where they infect the pubic through poor hygiene.

How come the officials never bring out this process?

Our borders are not like Iceland’s borders...just sayin,

Nor does Iceland border a group of countries that use them as an overflow to get rid of their impoverished peasants

And only 350K people to worry about.
Outside of Reykjavik, they’re pretty spread out.
And I doubt they have big nursing homes.

Notice the meat packing outbreaks were mostly kept hush-hush.
Wouldn’t want to offend the Chamber of Commerce.

Well, of course. "Initial" is the key word.

Recall: "Leaders" like DeBlasio (oh, God, I want to puke!) were out there telling people to party, accusing President Trump of racism in closing travel from China, and so on.

Those 1st days made a huge negative (positive for the virus) difference, and then Cuomo compounded it with his nursing home orders. By the time the heavy-handed mitigation kicked in, it was too late to save the victims already "baked in": The virus was widespread in various hotspots in NY and NJ. Infections in vulnerable folks are too often deaths 15-30 (or more) days later.

Being hit later in less of a surge gives FL, for example, an advantage in lower fatalities per million. Treatments are better, diagnoses are better, testing is better, and so on, more than countering the higher number of accumulated cases per million that FL now has.
