The last three purchases I’ve made, I’ve been NICS delayed. Have no idea why—I have a clean record—never even been charged with a crime. As I understand it, after three ‘working days’ if NICS doesn’t come back negative, you get the gun.
I don’t know if they start the clock the day after your purchase in which three days would be up today.
Most stores won’t release a gun until they get an approval, just to protect themselves, even if the law allows them to after 3 days.
I read the NICS “guidelines” and saw that the firearm can be released to the customer after a 3 day delay, counting the day the application was sent. It is still up to the FFL as to whether or not release the firearm to the buyer. The FBI is supposedly still running the check for a total of 90 days, after which the check is dropped. If the FBI does indeed find a good reason that the buyer is not a legal purchaser but has taken possession of said firearm, they submit the case to the ATF to gather up the firearm.
