Yes, they did. But, the division in the country had been brewing for many years (like now). Pulling the trigger to leave was was easy. I’m sure all the “i’s” were not dotted when they made the move, but it was far enough along that they were able to form a government and an army that held off the other side, while badly outnumbered, for 4 years.
Don't discount Texans now. I wasn't born here but got here as quick as I could. The attitude for most of Texas is already very independent from the other states, although we identify with OK, FL and LA somewhat many other states seem like foreign countries to us. If we could remove the political power from Austin, Houston and Dallas, most of the rest of the state would gladly consider an exit from the Union.
