Not surprising. It is difficult to disagree with someone without being disagreeable to them. Especially if they have made their minds up already. I have a policy of not discussing politics with anyone, unless they are willing to stipulate “freedom of speech” before you even start. Even then, one has to move slowly and very carefully in expressing your own opinions. It is better to let them rant their propaganda and then just say that ‘management does not necessarily agree with the content of your discussion’. However, the best policy is to not discuss politics or religion with anyone unless they really ask for it with the pre-agreed to conditions. (get it in writing if it is that important).
I strongly recommend reading all of the works of Dr. Moshe Avital, a Holocaust Survivor who has written many books on the evolution of the conditions that led to it. He recently passed away, but I recommend his last two books “Hope, Faith, and Resilience” and “Can There Be Forgiveness for the Holocaust”. Moshe was/is a dear friend, whom I first met in Jerusalem, and who does a great job of explaining how a Survivor views God and how he was personally treated during those times. Even though I am not Jewish, I have learned much about my own walk with God and how we can deal with the tough times that we all go through. Good luck to you.
