I’m in vol 2 of a three-volume set on the War in the Pacific, called “The Conquering Tide” by Ian Toll. His first volume, up to June 1942/Midway, was excellent. Thorough, he pays attention to all aspects of war-—developments in the US/Washington, the personalities of Nimitz, Yamamoto, King, and has obviously traversed the geography of the Solomons at length.

Strongly recommended.
