It’s hard to say. The scene remained in the novel and comic book tie ins. From what I read it was deleted when Lucas showed a rough cut to some director friends of his and Brian de Palma offered to do some improvements and it was cut because it slowed down the pace. There were two allusions to the badness of the Empire left in. Ancient Rome and the Nazis. (old republic, legions, stormtroopers)

Technically, the term stormtroopers predated Nazi Germany, and if anything was a holdover from World War I Imperial Germany (of which the Stormtroopers of Star Wars bore a closer depiction to than to those overglorified bouncer/street brawler Sturmabteilung). I’ll give you the Roman Empire, though...

And considering they inserted in a Civil War thing as a reference to Vietnam, if I think How Star Wars Conquered the Universe is of any indication, I don’t think that really disproves my point (especially not when Brian de Palma was also responsible for that anti-American Redacted movie that led directly to a terror attack in Germany around the time it was released). Plus, that only amounted to... what? Two lines, three lines tops? That doesn’t strike me as slowing down the pace. Now, if Biggs Darklighter gave a full essay on it like say how the various characters, namely Solidus Snake or maybe the Patriot AIs talked in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, where they data dump everything, THEN I might be able to see how that’d slow down the pace: https://youtu.be/eur7nV_ZqJY
