Bonus trivia: it’s speculated that Orwell’s TB was aggravated by his stay on the Isle of Jura at the (very) remote farmhouse “Barnhill”. That is a cold, damp and windy location at the best of times. That’s where he stayed to write 1984. During that stay he almost died when boating out to the Corryvreckan whirlpool. So we are lucky that the book was even completed.
This is such wonderful news! Thank you for sharing this with me, and everyone else.
Also, sorry for the slow replies. It’s been a busy weekend, and normally, I’d be in Church, but we just got his with a nice layer of freezing rain...
Thank you for this info. on Orwell’s last days. I’m sure that his love of smoking didn’t help. (I’m not knocking smokers... I was one for a long time, and don’t begrudge folks who still partake).
Albert Camus was in a similar position, and in fact his stance against tyranny and totalitarianism overlapped a good deal with Orwell’s. However, in Camus’ case, it wasn’t the TB that got him, or the cigarettes, it was a car crash.
They might not have been believers, but both men were just that... men. And real ones.
As far as I know, you don’t get tuberculous from smoking, but then again I’m no doctor. 8>)
Shucks, I haven’t figured out how to post pics/gifs, etc. yet.
The link is to an Airplane gif featuring the great Leslie Nielsen.
I’m not a doctor, but I suspect that you’re correct (lol).
Excellent. Thank you!
That movie could never be made today, which makes me love it that much more.
Use it in good heath. 8>)
