You make an interesting point. The reach and power of the Swamp may well have made assassinations irrelevant. Why go that route when there a many other ways to silence someone, strip them of their power, and then throw them out of office?
Actually I believe you are wrong. They act more as agents of China than the USA government. They have gave access to their data bases to the Chinese government in order to to access to their population.
