The proper terminology for the current coronavrii variants is COVID-20. It's just this season's version, now without its own vaccine. It will take at least 8 months to produce a new vaccine for it, just like it did for bird flu. But the vaccine won't work then for next season's COVID-21, eh? Just like happened with bird flu.

So what is new?

A great way to strike irrational fear in the hearts of the masses, and control them; an advantagge not recognized for birdflu in past years.

Actually... If the COVID-19 (or 20) spike protein changes enough to evade the vaccines, most likely the virus’ efficiency in unlocking our ACE2 receptors would go down. (This is a rather different biochemistry than old style vaccines.) This is not certain, heck, an undetected meteor may smash my teeth in tomorrow. But I am not too worried at this point. Just getting vaccine shots out to people who want them is more important.
