Many, many of them have some ‘relative’ in the U.S. I live in a truly beautiful area, N.E. of Phx, AZ. Literally, Paradise, IMHO. As Trump pointed out, there are a bunch of s**tholes around the world. Central America is mostly a colon blocked up with constipated fecal matter. Costa Rica is probably the only exception.

I believe that mostly the US supported the governments because they were on the side of companies like United Fruit who wanted to continue paying their workers what they paid them. Whether that was enough or too little and whether or not the working conditions were adequate is up for debate.

If we didn't support the governments, who were nominally rightwing military juntas, then we could give money to the opposition who were mostly socialists or communists. So there were no good choices. I don't think anyone particularly liked the Contras, but they seemed better than the Sandinistas.

We could stop all aid, but I imagine that Trump did something for Honduras and Guatemala to get them to hold back their citizens from traveling up to the US border.

It's a fustercluck... and a preview of what is in store for us here in America.
