Look at this garbage I was just emailed from my local PBS station. White Supremacy????
Friends,
Like you, I’m profoundly troubled by recent events and deeply concerned about the fragility of our democracy. Darren Walker, president of the Ford Foundation, recently wrote that while “white supremacy is the greatest threat to democracy...democracy is the greatest threat to white supremacy.” This is the state of our country.
I believe this is a moment for us to pull together and support each other and our communities. I know the Bay Area is resilient. Now we need to demonstrate our resolve.
Independent press and media are under assault in these corrosive and destructive times. Our public-service journalism supports a well-informed, actively engaged society and healthy democracy. Trusted information is more important than ever. We know the Bay Area needs us.
KQED has an opportunity and responsibility to stand with our community and bring people together every day. We remain committed to our mission to inform, inspire and involve. That’s how we advance democracy.
I hope that the dedicated, meaningful and impactful role KQED plays in our community and our democracy will serve as a source of strength in this moment. We’re nonpartisan, but we’re not neutral. Morality matters. Values matter. Character matters. Together, with resilience and resolve, we’ll navigate these times with a moral compass, strengthen our democracy and move our community and country forward.
