I've thought for a while that the answer was a re-vote with the military conducting it and with no means to cheat available.
That seems the best way to resolve this that all Americans should accept.

They won’t have a very good way to cry when their favorite derp clowns no longer have anchor spots because they are incarcerated for leaking classified info, sedition, treason, etc.
