Thank you, bitt. When reports of the rising water at the Three Gorges Dam were world news in the spring and summer last year, I looked at the live-cam every day, until they took it down, and did a fair amount of research on the downstream effects of a breach.

I became familiar with the world-wide impact of the dam failure, especially on supply chains. They weren’t inconsequential to us since the rest of the world relies heavily on things from China; either agricultural products (30% of the world’s rice), complete manufactured products, or components for things assembled elsewhere.

I used to know the exact amount of time it would take for the water to get to each city, but I’ve forgotten much of those details now. All the posters bring so much great information to this site that I can’t retain everything I read.
