They must have totally missed that message, since they are doing the opposite... or you misunderstand the meaning of trust.
“Trust”, as in, trust something will be happening so don’t go and do something yourself.
This is right out of the communist playbook: Give people hope that others will do things so they do not need to. Make people sit back and do nothing by giving them hope someone else will take care of things.
I spent my formative years in defense intelligence studying the modes of propaganda used to gain the cooperation of the people to do the most horrific things to each other. This includes getting the people to do nothing as the tyrants did horrific things. Giving people something to always look forward to instead of taking action today is one of those modes.
