ESPN’s domestic coverage of US college football’s National Championship between Alabama Crimson Tide and Ohio State Buckeyes is set to be the least viewed matchup since the introduction of a title-deciding game.
Alabama’s comfortable 52-24 College Football Playoff victory over Ohio averaged 18.7 million viewers across the ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU channels, resulting in the lowest linear television audience in the 23 years since college football has decided a champion with a year-end game.
Though further figures from ESPNews and the ESPN app are expected to push total numbers past the 19 million mark, the game is still unlikely to surpass the low ABC suffered during its broadcast of the 2005 Bowl Championship Series (BCS) National Championship Game. Back then, the Orange Bowl game averaged a disappointing 21.4 million viewers for the network.
I just have antenna TV, but I could have watched it on my laptop if I wanted to. But, if my DAWGS aren't involved, my policy is F espn.
Que es el futbol?
FRUITBALL?
All that matters is that The Suck-Eyes lost
Apparently I’m racist, so I don’t watch programs with “them”.
I also like, and excel at, Mathematics.

For comedic value...TURN THE SOUND OFF AND LOOK AT THEIR FACES.
Exactly. Sick and tired of them bitching every year about how they’re not in the Championship game.
I also couldn’t be bothered. If I wanted to watch two teams rough up a pigskinned windbag without any hope of actually accomplishing anything, I’d watch Zuckerberg testify before Congress.
Sportspromedia.com needs to get some people who have at least a passing familiarity with American universities and sports.
It’s “The Ohio State University”, not “Ohio”...
I know that and I’ve never even been to Ohio.
Watched to halftime, then night-night
Except the Bills. I NEED the Bills to win on Saturday. I mean if you are a Bills fan, you get it...
I’ve seen the Bills play in 4 SB’s...
...yeah....me too....
I hope ESPN has AFLAC after that ratings bust.
Likewise, I just have antennae TV. However, I would have watched the game if it had been on any of the air-wave networks. If it had been on ESPN and ABC It could have resulted in a huge ratings bonanza. I am a UGA fan. I lived in Athens, Ga. resided in Russell Hall and watched UGA defeat Bama in 1976. I was there on the bridge. The UGA QB from So Cal is returning for one more season. UGA could defeat Florida and play in the SEC Championship Game. I want the Bowl games on free airwave TV.
Cable subscriptions are way down. That probably has something to do with it.
I think most people realize that most sports are filled with whiny spoiled brats. the NBA has done more harm to sports in general the any other single entity.
It was over before it started. Everybody knew Bama would win. The question was by how much. THE ohio stink don’t play anyone. I watched it to see how badly superman Justin Fields would do against a real football team. Our DAWGS lost two, one to Bama and one to florida @$#%^&^.
SEC SEC SEC
...outside of Colin Kaepernick...
“the NBA has done more harm to sports in general the any other single entity.”
I’m sure it’s a coincidence that it’s the “blackest” sport we have too...
I don’t care about sports one bit any longer, but I will tell you one thing. The guy who wrote this article knows zero about college football. You never refer to Ohio State as just plain Ohio. That is a different school.
