I think a part of what boosts the vale is that 1952 was TOPPS first year in the business.
I used to work with a guy that told me in 2008 that he had every complete set of TOPPS cards ever created. He was a teenager in 1952 and bought these sets brand new and just kept going.
I’ve not seen him in years, but I hope he’s alive still and got really rich off of this.
Thank you for the information. I like to think that it is something that I built while a kid and carried it over into my 20s. I have no plans to do anything with them and pass them off through inheritance to my son who values them as well.
But those higher numbers are exceptional examples even of what was in a package. They are mass produced so cards can be offcentered, scraped, gum stains, wax stains, bent edges/corners, printing errors, etc.
The only card of any value to me would be a Rick Monday card. He should be in the Hall of Fame.
