I don’t think the Constitution allows that. The qualifications for President are stated clearly, and don’t include “impeached while a private citizen to prevent reelection,” which is what this would be.

But, deductive reasoning from original legal text doesn’t seem to be reliable any longer.

No, but the sanity by Dems like Alan Dershowitz and Jonathan Turley, professors of Constitutional law are being ignored, literally.

I suspect their argument will be that he was impeached while president, and the timing of the trial is irrelevant. Assuming that logic holds Trump is toast. The senate Republicans will not stand behind him.
