In 1993 I took a supervisor class and one of the main concepts that they were teaching was that perception is reality. The whole notion drove me nuts and I railed against them teaching this as fact. Just because somebody perceives something does not mean that it is real people’s perceptions can be jaded or they can be extremely Rosy when neither are necessarily the case.

I didn’t win the debate because the instructors know everything of course. There really was no way to win a debate where I was logically shredding one of the companies’ main precepts.

I figured out that other horrible term for aboriginals (the B-word) from a story I peeked at in the USA as a child. The title was A Town Called Alice. I believe they were talking about Alice Springs.

That B-word just stuck with me ever since, for some reason.

Alice Springs is an interesting place in the aboriginal outback.

Kraft Cracker Barrel Aged Reserve extra-sharp cheddar cheese (black label) was once known as Coon Brand (before the name change to Aged Reserve) and it had a raccoon on the label. Can’t find any old images of it on the Web.

#17. We call matzah, Shingles. Paint them white and nail them to the house. Nobody will ever know the different and they last longer than tarpaper shingles.

#35. Re “There are fuzzy tailed four legged ‘coons’ that wander through our backyard at night”.

Oh, you mean “AOC and the Squats”? /sarc

Raccoons are smart, industrious, and often friendly animals. Democrats are not. They are psychopaths, lazy at doing their real job, ankle-biters, and America haters.

Never met a raccoon that is like that.

Just because somebody perceives something does not mean that it is real people’s perceptions can be jaded or they can be extremely Rosy when neither are necessarily the case.

My understanding of the phrase “Perception is reality” is that people will act on what they perceive to be reality.

We all do it. I perceive that it is cold outside; I dress according to that perception. Another person may perceive that it is a pleasant day and dress for a warm day.

The reality is that it is 38 degrees Fahrenheit. Some perceive it as cold others do not.

I have oversimplified the concept but I am not a philosopher

LOL!

So now a dictionary cannot have racist terms defined in it? So people can’t learn these things from the gutter and then manipulate the tiles to spell them out anyway?

While I would agree with what you are stating and that is essentially what I argued (unsuccessfully I might add) that what a given person perceives and how the act accordingly may have literally nothing to do with the reality of the given situation (they may be irrational or illogical). The training was going in the direction of what we see now with “systemic racism” and SJW causes writ large. The instructors were basically telling the entire class that to be effective as a supervisor that you have to bend to the will of the other person’s perception of reality in order to stay in their good graces and effectively supervise them. My argument was that if you can redirect the other person’s perception to reality when they are divorced from it (by being persuasive and not just coming from a position of power), that both could benefit. There are also people who are not able to be convinced (cognitive dissonance, confirmation bias, etc.), so you do have to tread lightly and not get into trouble (potential personal liability and all that it entails).

At any rate, if they had approached the subject matter in the way that you describe it, it would’ve been palatable to me.

We have entered the age of Eternally Aggrieved Minority.

Any perceived injury gives power to any member of a minority minority group.

Such as the article I linked. A marginally literate individual perceived an insult where none existed.
