Maybe. I was thinking about Churchill. Many blame his loss in 1945, for attacking Labour as Socialists, and specifically referring to them as the "Gestapo" so soon after the war had ended. That did not sit well, even with many of his fellow Tories. So they lose the election, and everybody thought Churchill was finished.
He was back at 10 Downing Street in 1951.
