Vanity: What happens when the phone companies block conservatives from the internet?
Myself | January 8, 2021 | Myself

Now that Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc., have made it clear they will deny access to their social media monopolies because of personal political beliefs, what will stop the phone/internet companies from denying access to basic phone, internet and cell service. This would result in the shutdown of Free Republic, Parler, OANN, RSBN, Newsmax, etc. And what would stop the banks and mortgage companies from denying access to their services?

With no means of collective communication, and imposition of severe financial consequences on individuals, how would it be possible to have any form of resistance against the media/uniparty/big tech/big corporate/deep state dictatorship?

This may not all happen tomorrow, but this is exactly what the leftists want. And the shutting down of the President's social media links proves that it is possible. Comments welcome.

Excellent information. It didn’t take long for Big Tech to prove my point. Today’s deplatforming of the Parler App should enrage everyone.

Never underestimate the Left.

Plugs may declare Martial Law citing "armed insurrection", etc, etc, and take over the internet, media, etc.

Prove me wrong.

I agree, you should not under estimate the extremes Libs will go to for control.

Utilities are not allowed to discriminate between customers – every customer is entitled to service on equal terms.

That is simply not true. While discrimination on the basis of race etc. is not allowed, discrimination on the basis of how a service is used is allowed, thus an ISP can ban a user who is using the service to post child porn. It is just a matter of time before the criteria for this extends to all that the likes of the racist hateful Southern Poverty Law Center deems a "hate group."

Regulated Utilities are electric, phone and water. The internet currently is not included under Regulated Utilities. Child porn is illegal in any form or function, nothing to do with a service from Regulated Utilities or independent businesses. A web host is an independent business just like a restaurant. You know the ”no shirt or shoes, no service“ concept.

So until internet providers become Regulated Utilities, there is not much customers can do but complain and leave. Now there maybe some room if the phone company or cable company is providing the internet content, but our complaint is with Twitter and Facebook, etc. which are not owned by a phone or cable company. The internet is the highway, our complaint is with the drivers of the vehicles on the highway.

And once again another very comprehensive post Sir. Thank you.

I am not sure, but I think the phone service it’s self might be regulated as a utility, but the data service is not. But as you point out, they have it all covered under a blanket TOS agreement. The whole enchilada or nothing. I think that may be why it is nearly impossible to purchase just phone service without a data plan included in the package. It forces buyers to agree to the whole blanket TOS that should actually only apply to the data service. It is dirty pool for sure.

There is not separation. It is use of services. I now see the beginning of a trend. I think in 4 years we will see a rate of hard-core degeneration in morals and freedoms that is more than what the last 40 years saw. Just in tonite's postings,

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is rarely, if ever, on the side of conservatives. In fact, they usually favor Democrats' policies and decisions. But now the civil rights organization is speaking out about Big Tech's decision to permanently ban President Donald Trump from their platforms.

I agree... If the ACLU is even raising their hackles something is definitely wrong.

Phone companies are still regulated as an utility I believe. So it would take State sanctioning of such an effort.

Laws are for little people.

Um... they go to the library?

Yeah, that'll work: go to the library where internet access is logged, ID is required to "check out and use" a PC connected to the Internet (in many places that's a condition) and access to "offensive" sites is already blocked?

yep, that'll work alright.

For our government to allow these companies to limit our freedom of speech is unconstitutional.

It's called FASCISM, and laws are for the "little people."
