Norton/Oversight Cmte Chair Maloney/Sens Van Hollen/Carper say: “Wednesday’s riot makes clear once again that D.C. statehood must become a reality and that the District must have the power to deploy the National Guard when the need is present." Mayor can't call up Guard

Saul Alinsky RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.”
Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions. (This is cruel, but very effective. Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works.)
Never let a crisis go to waste.
Classic example of trying to use Rahm Emanuel’s “never let a crisis go to waste” but failing.........
We think alike! I did not read the comments..... the Libs have become so Obvious. Hang out with Freepers and it becomes hard for the Libs to slide one by us!
Is the creation of DC as a Federal City in the Constitution? If so would it take a new Amendment to make it a state?
Someone correct me if I’m wrong; I think is constitutional amendment would be required to make Washington DC a state.
For the Lib’s, when they want, the constitution becomes a living, breathing item subject to change depending on the wind direction. But when they steal an election then we need to go by the exact wording of the constitution!
The thumping sound I hear is our forefathers and founders spinning in their graves.
Yes. That is the point, I think. The Left has won a lot. I hope that we figure out the next move. Personally, my $ is still on President DJT. Kind of rough waters now.
It seems they have no understanding of why DC is not a state.
Maybe DC and Puerto Rico can be states in whatever sort of country the Left has when all of this shakes out. The United States, as it currently exists, cannot continue for long. The differences are irreconcilable. Sad.
“According to Article IV, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution, only Congress has the ability to authorize the creation of a new state. Specifically, Section 3 prohibits the creation of new states from the territory of others without their consent, or the combining of two or more states without congressional approval [source: Monk].”
Some Puerto Rican activists shot up the US House in 1956 demanding independence from being a terrority under US control.
Really? It made it clear to me that DC deserves to lose home rule forever and be placed back under the control of Federal law enforcement.
Just for reference, it only takes a majority vote in the House and Senate to grant statehood. In the Senate, 50 + VP Harris is all that’s needed. D.C., Puerto Rico, any territory anywhere in the world that is ready to accept statehood can be voted into the Union immediately.
Hmmm.
What exactly, would the State of Washington, DC National Guard look like?
Could they get enough of the loafers off the dole to join it?
Maybe I am naive, but the thought of those people having NG uniforms doesn’t scare me much.
I was thinking about that during the riot. There are probably enough staffers and other federal employees playing out the string in the surrounding states. You might be able to stand up a battalion.
It proved to me that the SOB’s should govern from their states and meet via Zoom, like the rest of us.
DC was written into the constitution, therefore it cannot become a state without a constitutional amendment and ratification by 2/3 of the States. But Puerto Rico, Guam and American Samoa could become States. But there is not a lot of push from any of those. I suggest we cut deal with the democrats. We ratify DC Statehood, you approve California being divided into two States.
