Millions would survive a measles outbreak but quite a few would have resultant lingering after affects and some would die...though in recent years, advanced medical treatments , life saving care, and therapeutics would probably have saved those who would have died or had lingering after effects in the past.

So we vaccinate for it and the rates for measles or at least severe cases have plummeted in measurable ways.

My point...millions would survive a Covid case but many thousands are suffering from lingering issues for months and for some permanent heart and lung damage. Many have died or have died when covid aggravated their admittedly pernicious co-morbidities. My ICU fills up like the tides of the seas...some days less some days more with these cases. People we would expect to get better(even on vents) with other viruses or pneumonias struggle with this disease and once they hit our ICU we see about 40 percent die. I’m not saying 40 percent die if they get covid and need some hospitalization; I’m saying about 40 percent die should they need to come to the ICU with covid...some weeks it’s worse.

So if there is an effective vaccine and one is particularly at high risk, it behooves one to get it.

Yes I know the leftists are playing games with the numbers and it causes doubt and confusion. I know about the EVMS protocols calling for the use of Ivermectin but many younger doctors are so politically risk adverse, they have never developed the ability to overcome their all too human herd mentality. They will simply not stick their necks out to buck political trends despite what the real science is telling them.

I see elder white men with comorbidities, younger blacks and hispanic males(35 on up) who are obese, and black and hispanic women 40 on up(often with copd, diabetes, or who are asthmatics) who come in and really struggle and when they hit the icu about 40 to 60 percent don’t make it.

Skinny old white, hispanic and black ladies70 years or higher) come in sick with covid (yet who have few or no comorbidities) but a surprising high percentage generally bounce back and leave our ICU practically walking out(those in dementia would run out if we didn’t catch them) in the mid 90 percents.

White older males(60 yrs on up with one or no comorbidities) seem to
suffer salvo’s of domino effects with this illness...they aren’t breathing too badly at first but then they get blood clots, kidney injuries, heart attacks and strokes then bacterial sepsis.

Black and Hispanic older males get it much worse. Asian males get hit hard...not so much the women.

White younger adults who are healthy both males and females may be hospitalized but they rarely get sick enough to get to our ICU. Even the less healthier white adults survive at higher rates than their minority counter parts. So we don’t see many of them in my icu and when we do, they recover and get transferred back to lower level of care or even discharged to home.(90 per cent or more)

We do get the out of shape younger black and hispanic adults who already have issues with diabetes, asthma, and obesity. (Sadly about 10-20 percent of those die)

For those populations above, it would behoove them to get a vaccine when they can be made available for them. One’s over all chance of survival from covid might be in the 90’s but the risk of serious disease leading to death is not statically insignificant.

No I don’t think the nation’s commerce and economy should have been hijacked the way it was by the political process. Sweden showed how it could be done and I think their example could have been scaled up to work in many regions in America.

The vaccine does not target specific strains of viral material as does a traditional vaccine.

This vaccine is intended to train your immune system to target the “spike protein” that identifies a foreign substance as a coronavirus... Basically any coronavirus, despite variants or mutations, so long as they do not do away with the spike protein itself, would be equally targeted by your immune response.

I doubt it’s safe for anyone, ESPECIALLY not the elderly.

Well..my husband and I slept in our truck last night in line to get the vaccine. We were in the 2nd group of 100 to get vaccinated and the parking area where we staged was filled to capacity with police eventually turning people away sometime in the night or toward early morning.

So far, so good, not even arm soreness. (Sleeping in the truck soreness is a different matter).

My point is that hundreds of people today, and many or most were elderly, obviously thought it was well worth the risk.

Sorry for this nurse, however nothing in life is guaranteed. AND I've been following the posts of a FB Friend who's son is a nurse and is home after hospitalization and is struggling with the exhaustion and trying to keep his O2 sats up after minimal activity. What he describes, I wouldn't wish on anybody. He was on 15L of O2 in the hospital, maybe more. Often on 5L at home.

As somebody else here posted, if you don't read anything else from me, no worries, I'm with Jesus.

Well, I read up to here, hoping someone would say something about one or both of two things:

1. epidemic, something that grows exponentially and if you don’t stop it or lessen it fast enough, grows OUT OF CONTROL something like a wildfire

2. public health, something that we safeguard if we care about our town, city, state, or country, and something that although it is related to one’s personal health, is usually thought of in a different way when weighing possible actions

How can one believe in the Constitution and NOT go with the “it’s your personal choice” route?

I hate to say it, but all the Leftist propaganda has eroded a LOT of folks belief systems to where many that think of themselves as Conservatives/Constitutionalists are partway to the Nanny State mental programming where they think if it isn’t the State making decisions for folks, but they themselves doing it, it’s fine and dandy.

The Constitution has no “Noble Cause” clause - yet many seem to think it should.
