The General probably did something bad in his lifetime,
so his statue is scheduled to be demolished anyway.

He should have kept the sword, at least then part of the statue would be intact.
Stolen on a drunken lark 40 years ago. When he and his friends sobered up the next day they were too scared to try and return it.
At least he finally manned up.
He held onto it for forty years, which is probably longer than the statue has to remain up before the ‘woke’ mob has it taken down.
A 40-year-long sworded affair
A friend, in a drunken escapade in college, found a back-door into the university President’s lobby and office. It was an old building with a lot of underground steam tunnels, hidden stairways, etc…
He pinched (stole) large photo of one of the early college Presidents, as a trophy.
The next morning, he realized the consequences of what he had done, swore us to secrecy, and promptly hid the photo far from his campus apartment.
He returned it, anonymously of course, about 15 years later, and also made a pretty large donation to the school
“The returned sword is likely to be preserved by a local museum, the newspaper reported”.
Thank goodness. I can just imagine they put it back and some jerk who read all the stories about it being stolen goes ahead and steals it.
