Well the french revolution was a the epitome of cancel culture. They even went as far as cancelling the names of the months and days of the week and starting a new “year one” in the calendar.

It makes today’s cancel culture seem rather tame in comparison.
But it didn’t last long. Within a few years all the leaders of the revolution were themselves “cancelled” (killed) . And ironies of all ironies in a mere 15 years the monarchy that they hated so much came back with a vengeance as an EMPIRE under Napoleon.
Let’s hope the same fate awaits the the “cancellers” of today.
