I’m not sure I agree with the sentiment. I’m 70 and am glad I did not do a lot of foolish things I could have.
I’m 70 too 11/21/50
Yikes! Me too 😬
And as I tell everyone, we grew up in the best of times.
Ok ‘kids’....
However part of it is ‘what if........’
I used to tell people I was ‘sane’ and had the ‘papers’ to prove it as I was accepted to Submarine Service.
As one gets older you realize that the ‘standard test(s)’ weren’t to test ones sanity, it was to see if one was/is crazy enough to let themselves be ‘sunk in a 300’(or so) steel tube, jump out of a perfectly good airplane, swim 20 miles with full pack etc etc etc’.
I was watching the RR movie ‘Hellcats of the Navy’ and while the crew was under depth charge attack I found myself asking myself “What the .... was I thinking, volunteering for that?:
Which at the time seemed like a good idea.
After a ‘close call’ in 1963 I figured I would NEVER live to see 30 but definitely fooled everyone INCLUDING myself as I have ‘added’ a half century + to my resume.
Although like most if not all-on this thread, we have lived in 2 centuries and I have made it to 10 decades....
Counts even though 10/1939 was first and 2020 was last...still counts..HA HA
