“Even if Sen. Hawley does object to the slate of EC electors, what good will it do?

My understanding, they’ll debate, give testimony as to election fraud...then they’ll vote to approve...it’s over.”

that’s generally my feeling as well. but Mitch is making a huge fuss, so I’m sure it is worth doing.

I think Mitch and the RINOs wanted to wait on the voter fraud issue until Trump was safely out of office. Then they could hype the dead, out of state, underage voting etc , destabilize Biden/Kamala, raise money from naive MAGA etc etc.

With Hawley making a fuss now, Mitch and the RINOs have to vote it down. Makes it harder to exploit the issue once Trump is out.

That’s the gist of it.
Wish more could see it that way.
The big “tell” that the GOP mistrusted Trump is that they wouldn’t pass an “infrastructure bill”. They LOVE spending money on that- but only if it goes to their donors.

I’m still hoping Trump gets an honest electoral result but...
it may be a bridge too at this point.

At least get us honest, verifiable elections in future.

Agree 100%. The other thing is with Hawley stepping up it puts huge pressure on the beltway TV conservatives like Rand and Cruz to also. If they join the dam might just break as others like Rick Scott want to keep some street cred amongst the MAGA voting base. At that point China Mitch isn’t so easily able to isolate his opposition.

I think the first statement I saw from Mitch on this subject was that he did not want a scene where every senator had to vote on the issue. He does not want Republicans in a situation where they'd be supporting, or not supporting the president.

That's how I understood things as this unfolded, but that could be wrong.
