If you’d been married to my ex-wife, you would realize that isn’t always true. With my current wife, my financial situation has improved immensely. And, I didn’t marry a rich woman.
Glad it worked out for you.
Mr. Duke,
I concur. It only took me 21 years to figure out that life is too short. I tried several times during that timeframe with two daughters to support but I finally reached my breaking point.
Fifteen years later, I am a very happy (but older) man now married almost 9 years to a H.S. Sweetheart. And, yes, my financial position is much improved but I plan on working as long as I am a positive contributor to my department. Losing 1/2 of my retirement at the divorce and 8 years of alimony was costly.
It was a painful process and I tell young men today (I am a professor and around a lot of college aged men) that selecting the RIGHT mate is the most important decision they will ever make in their lives. If there is any doubt and if child rearing philosophy is not consistent, don’t do it.
Happy New Years!
