Should You Eat Ramen on Toast?

I don’t know when it happened, but at some point we—as a society—decided that it was indecent to consume a carbohydrate on or in another carbohydrate. There are some exceptions, such as Taco Bell’s now retired spicy potato soft taco and the UK’s chip butty, but in most circles, carb-on-carb is a fairly rare configuration.

Potatoes are the easiest to get away with. Both the taco and butty (which is British for “odd little sandwich”) I mention above use potato as the “filling carb,” and a wheat-based carb as the delivery system. Getting two wheat-based carbs involved, on the other hand, feels awkward—but that’s exactly what reader Kurt suggested I do.

I always found their baked beans on toast intriguing. I know the beans aren’t like our baked beans; they seem to be more like our pork and beans?

A tuna sandwich with potato chips on the sandwich in place of lettuce is a culinary treat

The chowder in a hollowed-out loaf of bread approach.

A couple of years ago, she had to get special braces for her teeth and mouth, and the orthodontist and hers costs are saying don’t do that on few things.

This was a no~no, and she doesn’t do it now. She just eats the soup from the bread.

If any liquids are left in my bowl, I will shred some of the side order of bread into my soup bowl.

Thanks, I just sent copies of this to our college GK's and grand nieces/nephews. This could become one of their eat over the sink main meals.

The NBA player Terry Rozier grew up poor and famously shared his favorite sandwich recipe: white bread, spaghetti pasta, table sugar and ranch salad dressing.

The Los Angeles Rams running back Wendell Tyler said he was poor and grew up on sugar sandwiches.

I remember dialog from a very old film, (The Bowery Boys?) that was something like this:

Hey Ma, give me some bread and butta.   We ain't got no butta.   Then bring me some bread and sugga.

Pierogies, yes. Potato & bread in general, yes. Ramen on toast, oh HELL no.

Yeah, I’m with ya. Authentic Philly steaks, no way. Take perfectly good meat and make it a soggy overcooked mess. And that cheese whiz they put on them sometimes, yuk.

Now a version of that with rare sliced roast or steak, oh hell yeah.
